The G*M*S Magazine Podcast - Spiel 2011 Days 3 and 4

And we reach the end of Spiel 2011 and it is rather sad.
Although I was properly exhausted and my brain was about to give up. Still I prodded along around the exhibition halls and managed to get some interesting people to tell me about their games, and I think two of the most interesting projects of the whole Spiel are in this episode.
We start with Cave Evil and an interview with Nate Hayden, one of the designers. Cave Evil is a black game. The art work is black, the characters are necromancers and they must fight to control the underworld while they fight and summon monsters out of the resources they gather. This is a very simplistic way to put it for a game that's really deep and solid as a rock. Still, Nate tells a lot more, so hope you enjoy the interview.
The nice guys from Tuonela Productions also gave me an overview of their games, company and phylosophy and I was really happy to see they don't shy away from tough subjects. Their game, Inquisitio, is based on the Spanish Inquisition and in it you play a tortured soul trying to escape. Although I must admit I am biased since the Spanish Inquisition is a part of the history of my country I am not proud of, I must say it is a very interesting concept. Review will happen in due course!
Now for one of the two really interesting project. You might know Dofus, a free to play online game with seriously nice characters and graphic work. Well, the guys from Ankama in France are bringing it to the table, quite literally. With some delighful miniatures. With 8 coming in the basic box-set and 34 the total number, I think collectors all over the world will be looking forward to this one.
Last but not least is Iron Sky. A movie and a boardgame based on Nazis on the Moon who decideto come back to Earth. Just that should be enough to grab your attention, but if you need more, then the interview will give you all the reasons you'll ever need.
And the podcast ends with our lunch conversation with Richard Bliss and Lawrence O'Brian with our impressions of the whole thing. And we get controversial!
Day four rolled into the same podcast. You'll find out why when you get to it!
Hope you enjoy this one!
Paco.
