europe_usa_large.jpgThis episode is a bit strange and very different from the usual.

We don’t have an interview. Instead, Jess, Dale and myself have a chat about the difference between the game trends and tastes between Europeans and our friends from the USA.

Now that we are going to have two co-hosts from the USA, I feel it is important to understand what the differences are between our two continents and many countries, so we can cater for all tastes and, hopefully, bring European games to America’s attention.

Of course we could do with your feedback on this one. Both from Europeans with suggestions on what games to bring to the fray. And to our USA friends and listeners, what games would you like to hear about? What topics?

You can get in touch via email on podcast@gmsmagazine.com and we'd be more than happy to get your feedback!

Box-Front-300x281.jpgThis is a special episode. It’s special because, for the first time ever, we have a guest for the second time. This has happened in the RPG podcast, but not in the boardgame one.

But first things first. Mark, Lorien and myself give you some quick reviews of some games, Start Trek, Cave Evil and others get a mention after we’ve been playing them, and if you needed to know if you want these games or not, you might be interested in what we have to say.

We are also joined by the creator of Sentinels of the Multiverse, Christopher Badell and Richard Launius, the creator of so many games that I run out of hands to count too quickly to remember them all. Suffice to say they tend to be pretty amazing games.

pic1021598_md.jpgChristopher and Richard have worked together to bring the new expansion of the game, Infernal Relics, which has received more than $100.000. And with the pedigree the comes with both the original game, and the design skills of Mr. Launius, this new expansion is extremely promising. So get pre-ordering the game in your local game store to make sure you don’t miss out on it!

Of course, let’s not forget that the UK Games Expo is coming up very soon and a ton of really cool events will be taking place. From celebrities signing autographs and doing Q&A sessions, to demos of new games, old games, game design panels and much, much more.

pic1057420_md.jpgKenny Baker (R2D2) will be there, Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, Ben Counter, and more. Artists, authors galore for you to meet and talk to face to face. This is indeed one not to miss!

Mark also gives us more information about Ace of Spies and when we’ll be able to see it in Kickstarter again. Which is sooner than you think!

Really hope you enjoy the show. Feedback and comments are very welcome and you can contact us at podcast@gmsmagazine.com.

chronicle-city.jpgWe come to episode 42 and we’re hoping this is the last episode with just Dale and myself.

I am very pleased to say we are going to have more co-hosts in future episodes and they’re going to make the podcast really great! You’ll find out who in this episode of the show.

In this show Dale talks about his experience playing Mutants and Masterminds with children, and his first impressions on the Marvel RPG. It would appear that ICONS, with its simple mechanics and cartoon style layout was a hit!

Angus Abranson has got just the right type of pedigree to create a successful RPG publishing company. From his beginnings in retail to co-founding one of the most successful companies in the UK, Cubicle 7, Angus knows everything one needs to know, and he is doing it all very well indeed. We talk about what Chronicle City is all about, what games they have and plans for the future. Future that looks very promising!

And we end with a bit of a rant about apathy in gamers from the UK. Yep, Dale and I go at it again! And if you disagree with us, please let us know. Podcast@gmsmagazine.com is the email and you’re more than welcome to use it!

pic1089477.jpgThis time I am joined by Lorien Green to host the podcast, since Mark was away and unable to come to this episode.

We did have a great time, though! Chatted about wargaming and Salute 2012, the wargames exhibition in London Excel that has taken place for the last 40 years.

Lorien, though, has been up to something REALLY cool. She has found The Pinball Wizard Arcade and, understandably, she’s been hooked since! Although they’re not boardgames, Pinballs are mega cool and we had a good chat about them. If you are in Pelham NH, you could do a lot worse than spending some time there!

In this show, you can also find an interview with Andrei and Agnyeska, the creators of Warriors and Traders, a game that mixes wargames and euro mechanics in a medieval setting. From the designer’s description:

Warriors & Traders, a turn-based strategy board game set in the Dark Ages in Europe, is a pure strategy game, involving no dice and no unforeseen events. In a nutshell, there's no luck, just strategy.

Each player starts as the ruler of a small country which he or she will grow into an empire.

pic1178715_md.pngIn Warriors & Traders, players will use Actions to develop their countries' technologies, Production, Trade and Military, keeping track on separate Play-mats. They will also build armies to conquer new provinces and forts to defend their own and they will harvest and trade for resources.

The game can be played either in alliance or in a free-for-all system. Player will get Victory points from fighting enemy player or the Barbarians who populate the map, from building Forts or trading. The player or alliance accumulating the most Victory points will win the game. The game ends after a maximum of 10 turns or when one or more players reach the victory conditions, dependent on the number of players and the type of play.

All and all, a good fun episode for all!

Remember that you can always contact us in our email: podcast@gmsmagazine.com and feedback is very welcome!

Hope you enjoy the show!
